Francine Hardaway Ph.D., has been shattering barriers and shaping industries for over 50 years. As a serial entrepreneur, communication strategist, and co-founder of Stealthmode Partners, she has left an indelible mark on the tech and healthcare sectors. Her journey, filled with bold pivots, fearless ambition, and a steadfast commitment to learning, offers profound lessons for aspiring innovators and seasoned professionals alike.
In this article, we explore how Francine Hardaway brings people and companies together, her work with Stealthmode Partners, and her inspiring story told on The Elephant in the Room podcast.
Francine’s path into tech was anything but traditional. Starting as an English professor, she pivoted to public relations after discovering a natural affinity for communication strategy. Her ability to adapt led her into the world of technology during a critical moment in the 1980s when real estate, her initial area of focus, collapsed following sweeping tax reforms.
Her entry into tech began with a claims processing software company, igniting her fascination with healthcare technology. Over the years, Francine immersed herself in emerging business arenas, becoming a bridge between complex industries and the people they served. “I’ve always been a futurist,” Francine reflects. “I follow my curiosity and let it lead me to the next opportunity.”
Despite her reputation as a fearless leader, Francine is candid about the anxiety and uncertainty she has faced. “No person in business is ever fearless,” she admits. “I’ve had panic attacks and prepared for bankruptcy more times than I can count. But fear didn’t stop me.”
This resilience was crucial as she navigated male-dominated industries where she was often the only woman in the room. “I didn’t realized at the time what sacrifices I was making,” Francine recalls. “Looking back, I see how much women in tech endured just to be in the game.”
After selling her second company to Intel, Francine co-founded Stealth Mode Partners, an accelerator supporting entrepreneurs in tech and healthcare. From raising millions for startups to mentoring countless founders, Francine’s work has been a beacon for innovation.
Her focus evolved over time. Initially working with tech entrepreneurs, she shifted her attention to marginalized communities, helping individuals without traditional access to resources build successful businesses. “I wanted to ensure everyone had a shot at success,” Francine explains.
At 76, Francine taught herself to code, embodying her belief in the transformative power of education. “Learning is the key to success,” she says. “The world is changing so fast. Hold on to nothing. Keep evolving.” This mindset has driven Francine’s continued involvement in cutting-edge areas like cryptocurrency, NFTs, and emerging technologies. She thrives on exploring uncharted territories, inspiring others to embrace change and pursue their passions.
Reflecting on her trailblazing career, Francine offers this advice: “Put yourself in the path of where the market is going. Be open to learning and willing to pivot. Success comes from adaptability and a refusal to let fear hold you back.” Her story also underscores the importance of community. “Seek out mentors and peers who challenge you to grow,” she urges. “Together, we can push boundaries and create a more inclusive tech industry.”
Francine Hardaway’s influence extends far beyond her professional achievements. As a mother, foster parent, and grandmother to 17, she has built a life defined by compassion and generosity. Her work has not only advanced industries but also empowered individuals from all walks of life.
“What good is it to be alive if you’re not bringing something to whatever you’re in?” Francine asks. Her journey—marked by courage, adaptability, and an unwavering commitment to learning—proves that success is not just about what you achieve but also about how you uplift others along the way.
